I went to CAMP 2017!

I recently got the opportunity to attend CAMP 2017 – a design, art and technology convention held annually in Calgary. This year was the fourth year and it was my first time attending. I am really looking forward to next year’s festival! Here’s why:

They had a ton of inspiring and motivational speakers. I felt so enlightened after coming out of each of the panels I attended. Panels I really enjoyed included: The Evolution of Our Relationship with Technology by Riccardo Giraldi, Stop Looking for Inspiration: Be Your Own Muse! by Lauren Hom, Remote: Hacking the World’s Genius by Robyn Larsen and Entertaining Design: It’s Nice to be Nice to the Nice by Emily Oberman. I made sure to take notes so that I can apply their ways of thinking and expert advice to my own creative adventures.

There was definitely a lot of opportunity to network with different individuals in the industry. Not only did people who work in the industry attend, but students did too! I didn’t really network with anyone because I am actually really shy… I noticed a lot of people did go to the conference with a friend, group or their co-workers, so I would love to try that next time. Talking might be a bit easier in a group!

The festival was for only two days (there was a third day with workshops, but that was a little bit more expensive to participate in) and I honestly wish it were a bit longer! It was reminiscent of going to lecture days at the university. I learned a lot and a few weeks later, I am still inspired.

I highly recommend the festival to anyone who’s looking for some motivation, inspiration and to learn new things about design trends and technology!

Outfit of the Day: Stars and Plaid

I went to the zoo the other day. It was 33 degrees Celsius… which is FREAKING hot!! I normally go for a cardigan or jacket to wrap around (I don’t like tans), but it was just too hot that day, so I opted for a simple t-shirt and a skirt… and a giant water bottle to keep me hydrated throughout the day, which also kept the sweat at bay.

Stars and P;aid Outfit

T-Shirt: Simons – Skirt: Mariposa – Shoes: Payless Shoesource

The inner punk rocker in me screamed in excitement when I saw this gold star shirt at Simons for only $14.99 CDN. I was looking for a new graphic t-shirt, and was so happy to find this keeper! The red plaid skirt with black lace trimming has been in my wardrobe for quite some time now. It’s from a store called Mariposa, which I believe has closed down now. Can you guess how long I’ve had this skirt for? 13 years! When I was much shorter back then this skirt was probably closer to my knees… but now it’s pretty much a mini-skirt, but I still enjoy wearing it.

What do you like to wear when it’s really hot outside? Let me know in the comments! 🙂

Skincare + Makeup Haul

It’s been a while since I ordered through the online Sephora store. I’ve been wanting to re-establish my VIB status for months, but nothing really caught my eye and I didn’t feel like I needed to replenish my collection or try something new for a while. Lately I have been trying a whole lot of samples for skincare, such as different face moisturizers as my current one hasn’t really been helping with my dry patches around my nose area. One of the samples I tried was for the Origins GinZing SPF 40 Tinted Moisturizer. My sample lasted me a good week and a half, and after seeing a few reviews on it, I decided to purchase a tube of my own. A little amount goes a long way and it’s just the coverage that I need for weekday wear. It’s super quick to put on my face, smells great, wakes me up and is quite moisturizing! It’s also great for the summer and those sunny days with the SPF 40 included.

I got a deluxe sample of the OLEHENRIKSEN Face the Truth Gel Cleanser. I love the smell of this, it’s smells like oranges and is so refreshing. It foams up really quickly and I use it with my Sephora Silicon Pad. It helps remove leftover makeup that my coconut oil could not get rid of, and I am really enjoying it so far. The deluxe size has lasted me for a few weeks already. I think I will purchase this product once I run out!

I ran out of the soap that I got from work (lychee and orange soap! :D) and so I headed over to my favourite body/bath products store, Rocky Mountain Soap Company, and bought two bars of soap. The Floral Abyssinian soap bar smells like those candy rockets we would eat when we were children, and is quite refreshing to use in the bath. I also got the Geranium soap bar as geranium is one of my favourite scents (it’s in my deoderant!) and I also have dry skin… so hopefully it’ll help moisturize my skin.

I used Ebates to gain cashback on my Sephora purchase! I highly recommend it, buy a bit, get a bit back!
